GPT-5 Generally Available now in your cloudlet
Admittedly we've dragged our feet when implementing GPT 5. First of all, because we're not really that impressed with GPT-5, and secondly because GPT-4.1 has twice the context window size, allowing us to use it (still) for things we can't use GPT-5 for. However, today I finally did it, and implemented support for "gpt-5-chat-latest".
GPT5 is impressive on some things, despite the public's outrage over it being just an "LLM router". I've tested it on a lot of different things, and one thing it does particularly good is coding actually. So we're now making GPT-5-chat-latest to the default vibe coding model in Magic Cloud.
Another thing it does very well is following instructions. Since most of what we do today is AI agents, instead of pur RAG solutions - This becomes a big deal for us. Especially (yet again), when coding!
Even though it tends to be a little bit of "a psychofant", it's outputs seems to be more "colourful" than both GPT-4.1 and GPT-4o. Below is a screenshot from the Magic Dashboard to show you a vibe coding type of output from it. If you've seen a couple of screenshots from me vibe coding previously with gpt-4.1, you can easily recognise that this is "something else". The thing that immediately catches your eyes is more usage of emoticons, bold, and formatting elements. Personally, I think it's going a bit overboard with bold words, but OK, that can be prompt engineered out if you wish.
It will also produce more "beautiful" frontend code, something illustrated in this page where I asked it to create a landing page and embed an AI chatbot on it. With GPT-4.1 I had to prompt engineer it like "crazy" to accomplish the same output quality. With GPT-5 it tends to come out of the box as "beautiful by default".
Upgrading to GPT-5
This weekend we will upgrade all your cloudlets to allow you to use GPT-5 in your AI chatbots. To choose it you need to choose "gpt-5-chat-latest" as your model type. But the "default" model will be automatically updated.
This implies it will feel different, starting from this weekend, and produce different outputs. Most of the time the output will be better, but sometimes it will not do things exactly as it did previously. Have this in mind especially when coding using AI assistance with Magic.
