Shopify AI Chatbot Recommending Best Selling Products

Shopify AI Chatbot Recommending Best Selling Products

We are social animals. This implies that we are driven by something called "social proof". One aspect of this is that we prefer to do business with companies that already have happy customers. Websites are using this to their advantage by having customer testimonials. Another consequence of this is that we prefer buying a product if it's already a best seller.

When we know something is a best selling product, we become more likely to believe it has high quality

E-Commerce advantages

You can leverage this knowledge to your benefit, by making sure your best selling products are specifically marked as "best selling products". Shopify have this ability, by tagging products as "best_selling", which you can use to your benefit as you show the product and recommend products in your online store.

Showing your best selling products as such, and prioritizing your best selling products in search, dramatically increases your sales

This effect originates from the fact that we're social animals, and we prefer doing what others are doing to minimize risk. It's really quite simple if you think about it; If 100 people ate a mushroom it's probably safe. If you're the first human to eat some mushroom, you can literally die.

For a sales executive saying "everybody else is doing it", can literally increase conversions by 40% in your store.

The AI chatbot that recommends products

Our AI chatbot can integrate with Shopify. One of our integrations is that we can automatically synchronize your AI chatbot with your Shopify account. This process allows us to periodically import products from your Shopify account, and have the AI chatbot recommend products accordingly. Below is an example from New Options Sports. Notice how the AI chatbot informs me that the product it's recommending is a best selling product.

How it works

It's really quite simple, but requires 3 changes to your AI chatbot and Shopify account.

  1. Make sure your Shopify account is tagging best selling products
  2. Add a "Search Postfix" with the value of " - Best selling"
  3. Add one rule to your chatbot's system message as follows; "If you recommend a product and the product is a best selling product, then let me know."

Number one above is a Shopify problem, and you're kind of on your own here. But number two is as simple as choosing "Configuration/OpenAI" and adding a search postfix such as illustrated in the following screenshot.

Configuring your AI chatbot to prioritize best selling products

Number 3 from above is just an additional rule to your chatbot's system message, containing some variation of the following.

If you recommend a product and the product is a best selling product, then let me know.

The effect of this will be that your AI chatbot will prioritize products tagged with "best_selling", and if it recommends such as product, it will make sure the user knows it's a best seller.

If you AI chatbot is not able to find a best selling product, it will still display product recommendations, but without informing the user that it's a best selling product. The last parts are crucial since you still want people to be able to purchase products that are not best selling. This is especially true for users that already knows what they want, and don't care if the product is best selling or not.

Wrapping up

The above trick can increase conversions by 40% because we're social animals, and we prefer to do "what everybody else is doing". With our Shopify integration, creating an AI chatbot that does this out of the box is easy.
